Cryptanthus “Absolute Zero” is one of the most striking varieties of “Earth Star” bromeliads on the market today. Its wavy, white-striped leaves can reach diameters of up to 15″ across and form a tight “rosette” at their core.
And while the tiny, white flowers that emerge from its center are barely visible, its dramatic leaf coloring more than makes up for any lack of blossoms.
A tropical plant native to Brazil, Cryptanthus “Absolute Zero” is a terrestrial (as opposed to epiphytic or tree-bound) bromeliad that grows slowly and prefers moderate to high humidity. In its natural, rainforest habitat, this remarkable plant spreads out on the forest floor under filtered light conditions.
However, the more light it receives, the more vivid its leaf striping becomes. Under low light conditions, the leaves will revert to a uniform green.
Cryptanthus “Absolute Zero” is easy to care for and can withstand some neglect, making it an excellent choice as a houseplant or for outdoor landscaping.
