Named for famed German botanist, Edward August von Regel, the bromeliad genus, Neoregelia, has over 100 species and too many varieties and hybrids to count. In its natural, South American habitat, Neoregelia is a tree-bound, epiphytic bromeliad. But many varieties, like Neoregelia “Orange Crush,” have been cultivated to grow in soil.
This variety of the bromeliad species, Carolinae, produces wide, orange and green variegated leaves. And when it blooms, the center of the plant turns a deep, orange-red. Mature plants can reach heights of 12″, with leaf spreads of up to 16″.
Because Neoregelia “Orange Crush” loves humidity, and the deep well at its center holds water, it can go for long periods of time without additional watering. This makes it an excellent choice for windward O’ahu home exteriors. And indoor plant lovers will enjoy how easy it is to care for.
Neoregelia “Orange Crush” is sure to add a spot of bright color to your home’s interior, lanai, or landscape.
