Dwarf Mexican Lime Tree

Dwarf Mexican Lime Tree

If you’ve ever had key lime pie, then you know why the Dwarf Mexican Lime Tree is so popular. Also known as Bartender’s lime and West Indian lime, the green-yellow fruit has a tart, tangy flavor and pungent aroma. The key lime is slightly smaller and has a thinner skin than other limes.

The Dwarf Mexican Lime tree grows from six to 13 feet tall and produces fruit and flowers year round in Hawaii. Its delicate, white flowers are sweetly scented, and the leaves are a rich, glossy green, making it an excellent ornamental plant.

Growing Tips*

  • Needs at least 10 hours of sunlight a day.
  • Prefers sandy, well-draining, weed-free soil, with a pH level of 6.1 to 7.8.
  • Work organic compost into the soil before planting.
  • Water regularly to keep soil moist. Don’t let the soil dry out, but don’t over water. Water-logged soil can kill the tree.
  • Pruning to remove stray branches helps to keep its shape.
  • Use Integrated Pest Management to identify the pest and reduce damage.

The flavorful juice of the Dwarf Mexican Lime Tree makes an excellent addition to your favorite drinks and baking recipes. Try it in your next key lime pie.
