The Double Rose Pikake (Hawaiian pronunciation of “peacock”) is a sweet-smelling jasmine that gets its name from Princess Ka’iulani’s love of roses and peacocks. Both of these specimens were found in abundance at Ainahau, the estate in Waikiki where she grew up.
The creamy-white, double flowers resemble miniature roses and bloom in the spring and summer. They are often included in fresh-flower leis for their beauty and fragrance.
Fairly resistant to drought, the Double Rose Pikake is a hardy shrub with bright green leaves. The plant grows to a width of two to three feet and up to six feet tall. You can grow it equally well in your landscape, garden, or in containers.
The Double Rose Pikake loves temperatures between 70 and 90 degrees F. This makes it an ideal flowering shrub for your home’s interior or exterior.
