Down To Earth Greensand

Down To Earth Greensand

Down To Earth Greensand is a nutrient-rich mineral called glauconite that is found in the sediment of ancient sea beds. Its grain-like consistency makes it a superior soil conditioner that loosens clay soils and builds the moisture-retention capacity of sandy soils.

The lime, marine potash, magnesia, phosphoric acid, silica, iron oxide, and more than 25 other trace minerals make Down To Earth Greensand a rich source of nutrition for a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, trees, houseplants, shrubs, and lawns.

Down To Earth Greensand promotes overall plant health as it slowly and consistently releases nutrients into the soil as a result of increased microbial activity. This provides your plants with sustained nutrition in a healthy soil environment throughout the growing season.

How to Use Down To Earth Greensand*

Follow these growing tips to use Down To Earth Greensand with confidence.

  • Vegetable Gardens and Flower Beds: New gardens – thoroughly mix 5 to 10 pounds per 100 square feet of soil into the top 3″ of garden soil at the beginning (spring) and end (fall) of the dry season. New transplants – mix 1 tablespoon into the backfill soil of the transplant hole. Fill the hole and around the transplant with the amended soil. Water thoroughly.
  • Container Gardens and Houseplants: New plantings – thoroughly mix 1 to 2 tablespoons per gallon of soil or 2 1/2 to 5 pounds per cubic yard of soil. Established plants – every other month during the growing season, lightly mix 1 to 2 tablespoons per gallon of soil into the soil surface.
  • Trees: New trees – thoroughly mix 1 to 2 pounds with the back fill soil of the transplant hole. Fill the hole and around the tree with the amended soil. Water well. Established trees – mix 1 to 2 pounds per 1″ of trunk diameter; spread around the base of the tree and out to the drip line (the area located under the outer circumference of the tree’s branches).
  • Grapes: Thoroughly mix ½ to 1 pound into the soil around each plant.
  • Row Crops: Depending on the crop’s specific nutrient needs and soil quality (have your soil tested to determine this), initially apply 500 to 2,000 pounds per acre. Reduce to 250 to 500 pounds per acre for annual maintenance.
