We carry delicious Local Solo Papayas that are grown right here in the Hawaiian islands. The sweet, firm fruit is yellow-orange in color and an excellent source of vitamins C, A, and E. These papayas are grown on the islands of Hawaii (Kapoho Solo), Kauai (Sunrise Solo), and Oahu (Waimanalo Solo).
Produced in the Puna district of the Big Island, the Kapoho variety represents 90% of the state’s papaya production. Sunrise Solo papayas are larger than Kapohos and primarily grown and marketed overseas. The Waimanalo variety produces a very sweet fruit that is slightly larger than the Kapoho and Sunrise.
If you aren’t going to eat them immediately, purchase your papayas unripe (green or yellow-green skin). To ripen, place them in a paper bag with bananas or apples. These fruits give off ethylene gas which speeds up ripening. When the skin is completely yellow, your papayas are ripe and ready to eat.
Local Solo Papayas can be eaten raw, as dried fruit, and included in your favorite ice cream, jam, and smoothie recipes. And while papayas are highly valued for their fruit, the seeds can be added to homemade salad dressings for a unique, tropical flavor.
Local Solo Papayas are a healthy alternative to sugar-laden snacks that your entire family will enjoy.
