Grand Fir Christmas Tree

Bare Grand Fir Christmas tree on a red and white velvet floor covering

You know Christmas is right around your corner when your home is filled with the strong, woodsy scent of a Grand Fir Christmas Tree.

Considered the most fragrant of all the Christmas trees, the naturally dense Grand Fir is sheared to perfection, allowing the distinctive coloring of its two-toned needles to shine through. Dark green on the top and a variegated green-white on the bottom, the flexible needles grow up to 1 1/2 inches long, giving the trees its soft, feathery appearance.

Grand Firs grow throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as in the Rocky Mountain states of Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and Montana.

And while you don’t need to burn the boughs for incense like Native Americans have done for centuries, the citrus-y fragrance will keep your home smelling fresh and clean throughout the holiday season.

Christmas Tree Care Tips

  • Water your tree immediately after setting it up. It will be very thirsty and may need up to a gallon of water during its first 24 hours in your home. Plain, room-temperature tap water is fine.
  • Be sure to check the water level every day, and add water as needed . A well-watered tree will shed fewer needles and remain healthy longer. Also, dry trees are combustible and represent a fire hazard. So water often, making sure water levels never drop below the tree’s base.
  • Add non-toxic Tree Life Tree Preservative to the water to ensure your tree gets the essential nutrients and minerals it needs to stay healthy throughout the holidays. It softens fibers, making it easier for your tree to get the water it needs.
